Tokøta from Mastering.com walks through two recording modes in Logic Pro that solve different problems. Replace mode swaps out a take entirely, shown here on a MIDI drum performance where the new recording overwrites the old one instead of layering on top of it as a normal overdub would.
Auto Punch handles a narrower fix: re-recording just one section, like a single word in a vocal or a rough phrase in a guitar solo, while everything outside that region stays untouched. Set the punch region, hit record, and playback only captures within those bounds.
Together these give you control over when to fully replace a performance versus when to isolate and repair just the weak spot, without redoing a take you already like.
