Thavius Beck demonstrates Bitwig's Spread parameter for automation clip breakpoints, a feature that introduces controlled randomness into your automation curves. Instead of a breakpoint landing on the exact same value every loop, Spread lets you define a range of potential values so each playback is slightly different.
The inspector panel is central to this workflow. Selecting any individual breakpoint surfaces per-point parameters including curvature and spread, giving you precise control over both the shape of the curve and how much that shape varies over time.
Applying spread to all breakpoints at once (Command-A to select all) lets you introduce a layer of organic variation across an entire automation shape without redrawing it. The result is automation that follows your intended contour but never lands the same way twice.
