This quick tip from Ableton's Learn Live series covers two Arrangement View shortcuts that keep automation editing predictable. First up is the Lock Envelope button, which pins your automation curves in place so dragging or editing a clip does not drag the automation along with it.
Leave Lock Envelopes off and any envelope tied to a clip will follow that clip's movement, which is useful when you want automation and clip content to travel together but risky when you just want to nudge timing.
The second tip shows how to duplicate a selected stretch of automation using the right-click menu's Duplicate option, or the Ctrl+D (Cmd+D on Mac) shortcut, letting you repeat a filter sweep or volume ramp across a section without redrawing it.
