Ocean builds a full drum pattern in Logic's Quick Sampler, laying kick, open hat, clap, and snare on separate MIDI channels for cleaner arrangement later.
Instead of drawing out every hit, he uses command+R to repeat a note and command+J to join the regions, turning one kick hit into a full pattern fast.
Note length matters beyond just pitch: stretching an open hat's MIDI note makes it ring longer, shortening it makes it clipped and tight.
Once the pattern locks in, he swings the snare using Logic's time quantize groove templates, nudging hits off the grid for a looser, less robotic feel.
